Guitar-ZyX-0.4.0, includes the latest VirOS

The new f11 based release is out there. Guitar-ZyX-0.4.0 was produced by VirOS, and contains the full, and now fully commented, VirOS source code. With 0.4.0 as forecast in the below post, source traits can now be baked into the output iso, as I did with gz040. Pushbutton self regeneration with optional transmogrification is now much much closer...

Guitar-ZyX-0.3, includes the latest VirOS

The new release is out there. Guitar-ZyX-0.3 was produced by VirOS, and contains the full VirOS source. -0.3.1 or -0.4 may also include all the source traits and source rpms, to be pushbutton self reproducable/transmogrifiable. So for the forseeable future, the latest version will either be available here, or within the latest released *-ZyX iso (i.e. Guitar-ZyX-0.3 presently). Currently f10 as a base is what is tested and known to work.

Project Status

It's been a while since I made a good VirOS release. In case anyone actually reads this, worry not, new releases are imminent. I've worked past the last upstream regression I needed to workaround to get a good f10 based Guitar-ZyX going. Specifically the fun of the barely documented gnome-session, in addition the utter brokenness of zenity. The latter was worked around by a couple thousand new lines of python which I had been meaning to do for a long time anyway, i.e. the new ZyX-LiveInstaller. The former, now that I've figured it out, I guess I can't complain too much about the gconf driven replacement to gnome-session. Though I'll have to see what f11 and f12 have in store for me. Anyway, f11 support should also come along fairly quickly, due to how much I need it due to regressions in simple hibernate functionality for both of my laptops. I.e. f9 at least worked tolerably well, wheras f10 is completely broken, and f11 seems to finally be pretty solid (after light testing). Slowly but surely...

Announce: VirOS release 20080126

A few minor bugfixes that I found while actually following the tutorial from scratch on a freshly installed from f8-i686-livecd system. I.e, now I really think the tutorial might actually work (or at least parts #1, #2, and #8).

Announce: VirOS release 20080125

Lots, and lots more cleanups, fixes and enhancements. Still need to do a tutorial test/walkthrough myself this weekend. Also I need to just put down example tar2ext3img and ext3img2tar commands, to demonstrate qfakeroot in the most simple fashion. But Fork-ZyX is coming along quite nicely. It will see its debut alpha release any day now. And hopefully shortly thereafter, it will get SuperDeviceMapperCaching...

Announce: VirOS release 20080124

Fixed quite a lot of stuff today and yesterday. Automatic caching download of fedora rescue iso works. Vnc2swf replaces vncrec quite nicely, and various other bugfixes and enhancements. I'm back to thinking that the first couple tutorials might actually work (except for vnlc which does not quite exist yet). Oh, and I cleaned those up a bit as well.
